The Council runs the Annual Journalism Excellence Awards [AJEA] in May each year targeted to coincide with the World Press Freedom Day celebrations. The main objectives of the award are: to recognise and award excellence in journalism, encourage professionalism in the practice of journalism as provided for by
the Code of Conduct for the Practice of Journalism in Kenya and to encourage Development Journalism in Kenya in respect to Vision 2030. The Council is calling on Kenya journalists (definition of journalist
will be as per the Media Act 2007 (CAP 411B)) to submit work published or broadcast in the local media within last year, including up to 15th March 2013.
